Reclaimed Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Rollerball Pen

Sale price$145.00

For the bourbon lover who already owns every bottle

This rollerball pen started life as a Kentucky bourbon barrel, resting quietly in a rickhouse before Roots & Jones reclaimed the staves and turned them into writing instruments. The wood still carries the dark, charred section from the inside of the barrel, visible in the grain and gently framed by sleek gunmetal hardware.

In the hand, it has just enough weight to feel important, but not fussy—a daily-use pen for journaling, planning, or signing the documents that matter. It’s a perfect gift for the bourbon lover who already has every bottle, a small, beautiful reminder of Kentucky’s barrel-aged heritage.

Craftsman Profile

Roots and Jones

Roots & Jones was born in a Kentucky barn woodshop, where founder and master craftsman Ryan Jones first asked his grandfather, Jim Cantrell, to teach him how to make pens. What started as a way to spend more time together turned into a full obsession: Ryan logged thousands of hours at the lathe, learning how to coax beauty and balance out of small blocks of wood. Today, Roots & Jones is still rooted in that original spirit—grandfather–grandson craftsmanship, made in the U.S., with each pen turned, sanded, and finished by hand in Kentucky.

Ryan’s work is built around the idea of “handcrafted storytelling.” He thoughtfully sources woods with history—reclaimed Kentucky bourbon barrels, historic timbers, Bethlehem olivewood, and North American hardwoods—and transforms them into what he calls “reflective tools”: pens meant for journaling, planning, and marking life’s milestones, not just signing receipts. The result is a small, growing collection of luxury wooden pens carried by select retailers across the country, each one a one-of-a-kind object with visible grain, a quiet sense of place, and a story that travels with whoever holds it
