14 inch Small Fanner Sweetgrass Basket
A starburst of palmetto, sewn into a Gullah sweetgrass fanner
Look straight down into it. Corey lined up his palmetto stitches row over row, so they run out from the center like the spokes of a wheel. Keeping stitches that true across so many coils takes a steady hand, and here they hold nearly to the rim.
Up the sides, bands of dark bulrush alternate with pale sweetgrass, and the rim rises and dips in a gentle wave. It's a fanner, the wide, open form once used to winnow rice. At 14 inches it's a centerpiece: satsumas and pomegranates in the fall, lemons all winter, bread for the whole table at Thanksgiving.
There's no dye anywhere in it. The color is the plants' own, and it deepens with years of handling.

Before you buy
Each piece is packed by hand and shipped insured. If anything arrives damaged, we replace it or refund you in full — send us a photograph and we'll take it from there.
Yes. Send it back within 14 days of delivery and we'll refund it. Because these are made by hand, expect variation in finish, color and size from piece to piece — that isn't a fault, it's the work.
Then it's gone. Every piece in a Short List release is one of one, and we don't reorder. Joining the list is how you hear about the next one first.
