The orchid you keep on your vanity

Something happened when we saw this in Kass O'Brien's West Palm Beach studio: we stopped. The sculptural orchid on the lid does that. It's three-dimensional, hand-built in ceramic, and painted with the same attention Kass brings to her gallery work — the petals have texture and depth, and no two are placed quite the same way.

Kass holds an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and has spent years observing the natural world of South Florida: seagrass, palm fronds, orchids. This box is that observation made permanent in ceramic. The form is heirloom. The orchid is unmistakable.

Inside: enough space for a ring, a pair of earrings, the small things you take off at the end of the day. The things that deserve a beautiful place to land.

Why Customers Love Kass' Ceramics

Made by Hand, One at a Time.

Kass builds every piece herself in her West Palm Beach studio. This is not a factory with her name on it — it's a single ceramicist working in clay, which is why each piece carries the particular quality of something that was looked at closely before it left the room.

Inspired by What Surrounds Her

Kass moved to South Florida and found a new artistic language in what surrounded her — orchids, palm fronds, the shapes of the natural world at the edge of land and sea. Her ceramics are not decorated with nature. They come from it.

Designed for a Home, Not a Gallery.

Kass's ceramics are beautiful enough to display and made to be used. A box on a vanity. A cachepot on a side table. Her work is at its best in a lived-in room — which is exactly where it belongs.

Craftsman Profile

Kass O'Brien

Kass O’Brien is a West Palm Beach–based ceramic artist whose work captures the textures, movement, and elegance of the natural world. Trained at Cranbrook Academy, she has developed a signature style that transforms coastal botanicals—sea grapes, willow leaves, coral, barnacles, and anemones—into sculptural, functional pieces for the home. Her collections are deeply tactile, often three-dimensional, and imbued with a sense of organic rhythm that recalls Florida’s shoreline and the subtleties of light, water, and growth.

Celebrated in Galerie Magazine, Business of Home, and WPB Magazine, Kass’s ceramics are sought after by leading designers such as Celerie Kemble and cherished by collectors for their expressive balance of artistry and utility. She often says her work is memory-driven—rooted in childhood explorations along the shore and reimagined through clay. Each piece is handmade, a quiet study of nature’s forms, and an invitation to bring the beauty of the outdoors—whether a curling oak leaf or the sway of an anemone—into everyday life.
