Leaf Bowl, 16 in
A spray of leaves in wild vine.
Sixteen inches across and low — a spray of woven leaves spilling in from one side, a bundled rim lashed by hand, and a floor that radiates from a single point. Shallow enough to sit on the dining table without blocking the view across it.
Anne Scarpa McCauley weaves it from wild Virginia honeysuckle, pale where she has skinned the vine and russet where she hasn't, with no dye, so the pale strands turn gold over time. Two of her baskets are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. There is only one of this piece.
