You really shouldn't put ANY wood or resin-handled knife in the dishwasher, as the humidity will harm it over time. A warm, soapy sponge works best.

Keep it in its sheath to avoid damage to the blade.

A sharpening stone is best, though it takes a little practice. You can also opt for an electric sharpener or let a professional sharpen it for you.
