The right way to serve deviled eggs

There are a few dishes that seem to appear at every Southern gathering — and deviled eggs are one of them.

Melissa Bridgman’s deviled egg plate is made by hand in Memphis, molded from a vintage pressed tray and finished with her signature hand-painted detail. It holds a full dozen eggs, with a center well for garnish or just a few more.  It’s the kind of piece you bring out for Easter, for tailgates, for Sunday afternoons — and then wonder how you ever served deviled eggs without it.

Because deviled eggs deserve better than a dinner plate.

Craftsman Profile

Bridgman Pottery

Melissa is a ceramist in Memphis, TN and a graduate of the University of Mississippi’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture. Her work exemplifies the very...Southern idea expressed by another notable UMiss grad that “the past isnt dead...it isn’t even past.” In our own experience, pieces like her deviled egg plates take us back to family reunions by the lake and Sunday afternoon dinners after church.

Melissa has said of her own work "The idea of hospitality plays a huge role in how I see my work being used, and I want everyday life to feel as special as the celebratory occasions we usually save our nice things for."

Her beautiful pieces have appeared in Garden and Gun, Southern Living, and Southern Home magazines.

Memphis potter Melissa Bridgman adds painterly flair to the traditional serving dish

There's something appealing about the simplicity of Melissa Bridgman's pottery...that seems to blend the primitive style of handcrafters of yesterday with the refinement you might find in your grandmother's china cabinet.
